Storing Your Sterling Silver
Jewelry
Storage
of your sterling silver jewelry in the open air and
excessive humidity for for a long period can cause it to
tarnish very fast. Tarnish initially shows up as a bit of
a gold film on your jewelry that fast turns to a blackish
color. This process is caused by oxidization of your
silver and humidity from the air. To keep your jewelry
from tarnishing, it is highly recommended that you store
your jewelry when not wearing it.
To
minimize tarnish and keep your jewelry from tarnishing
over an extended period of time, store your
silver in an airtight bag made of
tarnish-proof cloth. You can also use a Ziploc
bag. Be careful as certain plastic bags contain
ingredients which can cause your silver jewelry to tarnish
faster or stain. Always avoid the usage of
polyvinyl bags. Sterling
silver jewelry can be worn frequently and with minor
cleaning required, making it very simply to care for and
always fun to show off.
Though
silver jewelry is scratch resistant it isn't
scratch-proof. Please store your jewelry in such a way
that it won't rub against anything - like in a loose
jewelry drawer or jewelry box. When preparing your
jewelry for storage, keep in mind that exposure to air
encourages tarnishing as well.
