Silver Jewelry Care - Silver Jewelry
Cleaning
When your silver jewelry shows signs of
tarnishing, what you are seeing is really a product of
oxidation. The good news is that tarnishing on
sterling silver jewelry, when worn on a regularly, generally
does not occur. Long-terms storage of your silver jewelry
can, however cause it to tarnish.
To help keep your sterling silver silver
free from tarnishing, wash your silver regularly in a mild
dishwashing soap diluted in water. Completely dry your jewelry after
exposure to water. Finally, it is recommended that you
store silver in a dry container with anti-tarnish paper.
To remove film from your silver jewelry,
we recommend that you use a commercial-grade silver dip liquid,
silver polish paste or silver polish cloth. These are
available at most reputable jewelry stores. Be careful
not to get the cleaner on any stones as cleaners may harm certain
types of stones. Always read the cleaning product
manufacturer directions before starting.
Completely rinse your jewelry after cleaning, and dry with a soft cloth
.
You can also clean your
silver jewelry with a soft one hundred percent cotton
cloth to carefully rub off any excess buildup.
Keep in mind that sterling silver is a very soft metal and
is easily scratched- never rub your jewelry aggressively!
Always use a clean one hundred percent cotton
or silver cleaning cloth. It is also important to note
that certain types of paper, polyester, and coarse fabrics
often contain wood fibers that will scratch your fine
sterling silver jewelry. Dirt left over from earlier
cleanings can damage your jewelry as well.
